1. Who we are
GrabText ("we", "us", "our") is a free Chrome extension published by digitaltoolmaster.com. Website: grabtext.digitaltoolmaster.com. Contact: support@digitaltoolmaster.com.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect any personal information.
GrabText is designed to operate without any data collection. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any identifying information
- Your IP address
- The text you extract or any screenshots you capture
- Your browsing history or the URLs of pages you visit
- Any cookies, analytics, or tracking data
Local storage (the only data stored)
GrabText saves your OCR language preference (e.g. "eng") to your browser's localStorage under the key areatext_lang. This data never leaves your device, is not accessible to any website or third party, and is deleted when you clear browser data or uninstall the extension.
3. How OCR processing works
When you draw a selection over a non-text area, GrabText:
- Takes a screenshot of only your selected region using the Chrome
activeTabAPI. - Passes the cropped screenshot to a local Tesseract.js WebAssembly module running in an off-screen document inside your browser.
- Tesseract processes the image entirely on your device and returns the recognised text.
- The text is written to your clipboard. Nothing is sent externally.
4. Permissions we request and why
activeTab— Temporary access to your current tab after you click the icon. Used to inject the selection overlay. Revoked when the overlay closes.scripting— Required to inject and run the selection and text-extraction code in the active tab.offscreen— Allows a hidden off-screen document to run Tesseract OCR without affecting page performance. It only receives the cropped screenshot you selected.
We do not request permissions for tabs, history, bookmarks, cookies, identity, geolocation, notifications, or any broad host permissions.
5. Third-party services
GrabText communicates with no third-party services, APIs, or servers. All Tesseract language model files are bundled with the extension and loaded locally. The only external resource is the Chrome Web Store for installation, governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Children's privacy
GrabText is a general-purpose productivity tool. We collect no data from anyone, including children under 13. Because we collect no data, there is no special privacy risk to children.
7. Data security
Because GrabText does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data or user content, there is no centralised data to secure. All processing remains on your device within the browser's sandboxed extension environment.
8. Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Under privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA you have the right to access, correct, and delete personal data held about you. Since GrabText holds no personal data, these rights are automatically satisfied — there is nothing to access, correct, or delete on our end.
To delete your local language preference, clear browser site data for the extension or uninstall GrabText.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be published at grabtext.digitaltoolmaster.com/privacy-policy.html with an updated "Last updated" date. We will never introduce data collection or tracking without clearly notifying users in advance.
